Why customers buy and why they don’t

Why Customers Buy

(And Why They Don’t)

Sometimes when I’m out with the milking cow, she picks up some hay or finds a juicy tuft of grass, and it seems like she won’t move on.

So it is with customers. They seem to hesitate. Sometimes it looks to me like they are wasting time.

I know customers are not cows. But I do see a parallel in that behaviour and how I feel about it. So I have to ask myself, “Why do customers hesitate and why they don’t?”

Most business owners would love to know the answer to that question.

Why I started this website.

I started this website to clarify in my mind which tools I use to help customers get themselves through the buying process with less hesitation.

That was how the website started out. Then year 2022 arrived. By the time July 2022 arrived, It brought us a host of opportunities in a Post Pandemic economy, with locked borders and other uncertainties. We wondered if the businesses be able to create enough trust to help customers buy online?

In June 2022 I sold “my baby” so to speak. I sold The Coconut Oil Shop website to a fantastic couple who are committed to the industry. Now Then I began to focus more and more on Soap Sales, and on my role at Pinnacle&Co.

In that role, my clients learnt and benefited from my real-world experience (and mistakes) in driving sales online, and by email.

In the end I left that role and did some other things, between December 2022 and now, which is December 2025.

Now my focus for this site, and my Soap Sales sites will be strengthening their sales and customer experience with a consistent image and marketing that drives profits.

I mentioned the term “digital marketing” in the previous paragraph. I know people will be asking the question, “Can digital marketing boost sales”? I have 10+ years of experience in online business. I have been driving our business sales using digital marketing.

Since the Pandemic, I have decided to level up my skills and apply them to my family business. Moving forward we’ll see where that takes me and the help I provide others.

About Neil Smith

We’ve been part of the “maker community” since mum’s cousin came back from a visit to “Rocky”, where she watched a clip on the Bradie Bunch, about a woman with goats. That was the beginning of us making things as a family.

But let’s back up a bit. We were already selling Coconut Oil online before that. But that is another story.

In fact, as a family man, I’ve been directly responsible for determining the sales I make since 1995. During that time I have worked within an employment agreement, or self-employed but always in sales and marketing.

I thought, I just have to share some of the things I’ve been through with my family, in a family business that makes, markets and manages everything from home.
